Abstract
Regional characteristics of the sector of small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) are signicantly different. The article highlights the types of regions for the purpose of stimulating entrepreneurship: the regions with good environment for the SMEs' development; regions, showing a positive trend, as well as those in which inspite of the substantial budgetary investments, there are low rates of growth. In accordance with the identied types, author offered regionally differentiated support measures.
