In the framework of an integrative activity approach to the examination of the essence and structure of the motivation of work (E.P. Ilyin) and on the materials of applied sociological research "Professional identity of representatives of societal professions in conditions of precariatizing social and labor relations in Russian megalopolises" (2017), the article analyzes the main motives for professional choice and the prestige level of the medical profession in the assessment of doctors of Russian megalopolises. The questionnaires and interviews were attended by doctors from city budget hospitals in Moscow and Kazan.

The article analyzes the results of a sociological survey of doctors of city budget hospitals in Kazan (402 respondents, 2017). Sociological research was aimed at identifying social-group, structural and typological features of the professional identity of socially-oriented professional groups (teachers, doctors, military) in the conditions of precariation in Russian megacities. In the article, the character of labor motivation and professional values of doctors is determined on empirical material; the professional strategies of physicians are highlighted; the level of doctors' satisfaction with the chosen profession is analyzed, as well as the assessment of the status and prestige of the profession of the doctor.
