This article is devoted to complex and challenging research of key issues in the field of language policy of the national territorial entities of the Russian Federation. The article reveals the spectrum of problems facing the Russian state in the field of language policy in the national regions, focusing on the contradictions that exist in the policies of regional authorities in the field of ethno-linguistic interaction.

This article reviews the situation with the Russian language in the former Soviet Union, draws attention to the importance of the Russian language in the process of socio-economic and cultural modernization of the Soviet Union. It shows the opposition of interests of modernizational ideas and activities of ruling elites of sovereign republics. Here the author emphasizes the need to maintain and strengthen the position of the Russian language in the former Soviet territory.
