This article reviews the modern political process, which is characterized by a significant impact on the personal qualities of the leaders of the formation and functioning of political power. The author analyzes the problem of the existence of a certain point in the establishment of career women in the sphere of state authority and administration, above which only a few can rise the so-called "glass ceiling". The article also highlights the urgent need to enhance the leadership potential of women, which clearly illustrates the formed now in the government gender pyramid, which is characterized, as we have noted, the predominance of men in top positions in the power hierarchy, and women to lower.

The article dwells on the gender specifics of political power and political leadership phenomenon viewed as an object of politological research. The author attempts to analise the history and development of gender research as a part of political science evolution.

According to modern researches, woman’s political leadership is not only possible, but also is quite effective in the condition of a rapidly democratizing and becoming more humane society, that actualized a question of the specificity of women’s leadership, and also forms a need for its politological comprehending.
